myBB Plugin Struggle!

myBB database installation with Softaculous was a breeze, but that’s where the ease of working with it stopped for me.  Trying to upload the plugins was like a Kafka thriller trying to match the right files with the right myBB script directories in Filezilla.  I managed to be successful with the first plugin I loaded which was a Plugin Installer by Matt Rogowski.  He provided some good instructions of which folders to load the files to, so managed to get that one right.  However was unable to load any zipped plugins with it afterwards.  So it turned out to be a pretty useless plugin:

Next plugin I tried was the MYBB Thank You /Like system.  That took a long while to be sorted out.  As I first tried Matt Rogowski’s Installer, and that didn’t work.  I then thought I needed to use FTP – which I couldn’t, and in the end found it was optional, and was finally able to install it through the Admin Panel.  Then followed some more waste of time trying to sort through the settings of the plugin and to get it the way I wanted it.  I finally had it sorted out and working as I wanted it:

Next I tried the My_Alerts Master Plugin, and that I couldn’t manage to get to work at all.  In the end I found the reason for some of the battles with the plugins was the Square Theme I had uploaded.  I tested this by making the standard myBB theme the default theme, and that looked quite promising, until my next discovery was that moving from one theme to another when working with plugins in the Admin Panel can get the plugin system of Admin Panel to bomb out.  Which is exactly what it did.  At that stage I had to give up and removed the myBB as I was unable to work in the plugins any longer.  Here’s the My_Alerts Plugin I’m still trying to load:

Probably going to take a while to get to grips with myBB to the extent I’m hoping I can.  So more to be reported on this is later posts.
