myBB Emerald Theme

So it took at least a few weeks before I installed a new theme on new myBB Forum.  Reason being that after all of the struggles with the installation I anticipated some of the same for the theme.  If I’d known how easy it was going to be I’d probably have worked on this project sooner.

Here are the steps for installing a theme:

  1. Search for the latest stable version of the theme.  Make sure it is in a reliable Website.  Download it to your computer.
  2. Unzip the theme package.  There should be a separate upload package and an XML package.  First open the upload package and you will find an images folder in it.  Select the content of the images folder only – like the Emerald folder and use an FTP client to upload it to the images folder of myBB.
  3. Some themes include a Read file/folder.  Not all themes are equal and it would be very important to read any docs if those are included with the package.
  4. Fire up your myBB Forum, sign in to your admin panel and navigate to Templates & Style.  Click on Import a theme.  Then upload the dot.xml file from your computer to the Admin Panel.
  5. Next you need to activate the new theme in the Themes view.  You do this by simply right clicking over the new theme and then making it the default theme.

During a Shout Box discussion of a few weeks ago, Emerald theme was recommended as being very responsive for mobile phones, so tonight I finally buckled down to install the theme.

Here is a demo page of the Emerald theme to give an idea what it looks like:

And a link to the latest stable build of the Emerald theme if you are interested to use it:

My next step now will be to work on a logo and to replace the images of the theme with my Forum ID.  More about this in a later blog post.
