Great myBB experience sofar!

So today used the opportunity to test my premium Softaculous by installing a myBB installation. I had been holding my breath for a while, waiting for an opportunity with lots of time in it as I thought there would be at least a few hurdles in the way. The last time when I installed myBB I had done so from the command line and it turned out to be a painfully slow process. It had been a laborious exercise and archaic in its detailed steps. Here’s a link to my blog post about the experience:

So today was completely blown away when with the Softaculous installer it took under 5 minutes to install myBB. All I needed to do was provide a user and database name, and a few pieces of info, and Softaculous did the rest. Also thanks to this great VPS I’m on, all of it worked super fast. Most of my time is now invested to try out new templates and plugins. This morning I first tried the Emerald theme and was reminded why I didn’t like it. So went on to another theme – Square theme, and that’s working much better for me. Reason I chose it was it had a thread of 78 pages of posts in the myBB Community Forum and looked well supported.

Here is a link to a previous blog post containing instructions of how to install a theme in myBB:

I’m now working my way through a long list of plugins. Next step is to load a plugin uploader and hopefully it will expedite the upload of any other plugins. The uploader is supposed to be able to unzip the zipped plugin folder and send the sub-folders to the right program folders.  Let’s see how that works during my next myBB practice session.
